Quiet Music Ensemble and the Quiet Club play a selection of works by John Cage.
Quiet Music Ensemble, formed in 2008 and directed by John Godfrey, is dedicated to the performance of experimental and improvised music. The group has worked closely with internationally renowned exponents of experimental music, presented several high-profile events in Ireland and broadcast live on RTÉ lyric fm. In 2012, QME will release its first CD. The Quiet Club is Mick O’Shea and Danny McCarthy. Formed in 2006, the Quiet Club has met with considerable success and has become recognised as one of Ireland’s leading sound art improvisation groups. The Quiet Club continues to push the boundaries of sound making and listening by employing a wide
range of sound-making devices ranging from stones, homemade instruments, electronics, amplified textures, theremins and field recordings.

Seminar: Branches
A panel of artists and scholars present a tribute to John Cage in sound and words. Participants include: John David Fulleman (Cage’s collaborator/sound engineer on many projects); composers Alvin Lucier and Pauline Oliveros (SKYPE); sound artist Danny McCarthy; choreographer/dancer Mary Nunan; composer/performer Jennifer Walsh (SKYPE); composer Evangelia Rigaki; composer/musicologist Martin Iddon; and composer/performer John Godfrey.

Concert: Child of Tree
On Saturday 28th January at 6 pm, Quiet Music Ensemble and guests including The Quiet Club perform Child of Tree in the Triskel Arts Centre. A musicircus of late works by John Cage, the event is curated by John Godfrey, presented by Quiet Music Ensemble in association with Triskel Arts Centre, and supported by RTÉ lyric fm.
