"If Those Wall(papers) Could Talk" Sound Installation Fota House, Co Cork 9th -21st June This work was developed from research into the “Wallpaper Archives” housed in Fota House, Cobh, Co Cork Ireland. A site visit was arranged to the house which enabled me to view the extensive collection of wallpapers in the archives some dating back to the 18 th century. I was allowed view and touch several of these very rare specimens some extremely fragile. I recorded the sound of several of them. Many were textured whilst other were flat, smooth etc.. Each contained its own unique history whilst some were on the walls already and had been for some time thus creating a different surface and texture. Whilst there I also managed also to record the sound of a very old upright piano which was housed in the kitchen area. " This Now hEar" The Quiet Club @ Sirius Arts Centre No "Sound From A Safe Harbour" here The Quiet Club ( Mick O'Shea and Danny McCarthy) continue to plough unsafe uncharted waters in their quest for sonic adventures. Heading from Sirius Arts Centre on the very edge of Cork Harbour they will undertake their sonic mission on Saturday night. They will be joined by very special guest the dance and movement artist Sophie Hutchinson. Almost twenty years together The Quiet Club have truely pioneered sound art and improvised music in Ireland. Starting before it was popular or profitable they have ploughed their own furrow without any assistance. Known for their stated policy of "we don't talk about it before and we don't talk about it after". Renown for their live performances which can be from fifteen minutes to twelve hours and their willingness to collaborate with other artists of various disiplines this promises to be another night of amazing son...

“ Echo’s From An A(band)oned ROOM” Sound Installation Danny McCarthy Mallow Arts Collective Mallow Town Hall This work is not meant to be a portrait of the Thomas Davis Pipe Band Mallow but a snapshot/ a polaroid evoking a sonic memory. Referencing the acoustic ecology that surrounds the building the sound of the pipe band is embedded in the very fabric of Mallow Town Hall and is a ghostlike presence that haunts the place. This is not about the wonderful music of the band but a memory of that music, a fleeting glimpse and is thus by its very nature fragmented. It is composed of Field Recordings made of the band at a practice session and not of a performance. The band kindly facilitated the recordings by allowing the artist to record them practising in the West End Arts Studios. Generations will remember the sound of the pipe band practising echoing from the upper room in the Town Hall. It was part of growing up the sound was just there and not necessarily being listene...
