Angel: An Evening Without Scott Walker (1943 - 2019) in the Guesthouse as part of Indi Cork A wonderful evening of poetry, music, song and film took place in the Guesthouse on Thursday evening. Curated by Tony Langlois on behalf of Indi Cork it proved a very special night, With continous projections from Natasha Bourke and Max Le Cain it started with poetry from Robin Parmar who also did a wonderful drone piece This was followed by songs from Tony Langlois and John Byrne. Showing John is not just a great DJ and a fountain of musical knowledge but the guy can really sing as well backed by Tony on guitar and vocals. Harry Moore also sang and debuted his new shruti box to great effect. My own piece was an artwork for radio "Walk(er) The Idea Of S(cott)outh ". in the style of the great Glenn Gould and played back on transistor radio. Recalling when I first heard Scott Walker as part of the Walker Bro's back in the 60s on a small mono transistor radio. There w...

Launch of "Haunted By Silence" in CMC Launched by Bernard Clarke Lyric FM and Yvonne Ferguson Director Contemporary Music Centre Tuesday 2nd December We are delighted to announce - Haunted By Silence by Danny McCarthy is now available on CD & Digital formats You can listen and purchase here: farpoint.bandcamp.com/album/ haunted-by-silence The hypnotic 47-minute composition was inspired by McCarthy's deep listening experiences at St. Mary's Abbey, Glencairn, home to Ireland’s only Cistercian nuns, whose life is centered on silence. He recorded the unique, indeterminate sounds inspired by the Abbey's wood contracting as the heating system cools down in the evening. McCarthy weaves these field recordings and sounds from found objects to reflect both his practice of deep listening and his sublime compositional skills. The release is enhanced by two specially commissioned essays: one by renowned sound artist David Toop and another by Sr Eleanor Campion, a Cister...

" This Now hEar" The Quiet Club @ Sirius Arts Centre No "Sound From A Safe Harbour" here The Quiet Club ( Mick O'Shea and Danny McCarthy) continue to plough unsafe uncharted waters in their quest for sonic adventures. Heading from Sirius Arts Centre on the very edge of Cork Harbour they will undertake their sonic mission on Saturday night. They will be joined by very special guest the dance and movement artist Sophie Hutchinson. Almost twenty years together The Quiet Club have truely pioneered sound art and improvised music in Ireland. Starting before it was popular or profitable they have ploughed their own furrow without any assistance. Known for their stated policy of "we don't talk about it before and we don't talk about it after". Renown for their live performances which can be from fifteen minutes to twelve hours and their willingness to collaborate with other artists of various disiplines this promises to be another night of amazing son...
