“The Dead (flat) C Scrolls”

For Skibbereen Arts Festival McCarthy will premier a new work of his entitled “The Dead C Scrolls” which he has created using collage, found text and visuals. There are five scrolls in total each approx six feet in length from which the musicians/sound artists will perform the sound work. He will be accompanied by well known musician/composer Karen Power (laptop &field recordings)and John Godfrey guitar who is a musician, composer, member of Crash Ensemble and Director of Quiet Music Ensemble. The piece will approx two hours long during which the audience can come and go as they wish and are encouraged to move around the space during the performance.



Danny McCarthy is a pioneer of both sound art and performance art in Ireland. He has presented work extensively around Ireland in all the major galleries and his work is in several public and private collections including the Arts Council’s. He has presented and toured with his work worldwide including USA, Canada, Japan, China and widely in Europe. His most recent piece is a book with a 3”CD & an installation “The Memory (box) Room” (curated by Anthony Kelly) was presented in Soundfjord , London in June to critical acclaim. He performs regularly as part of The Quiet Club (with Mick O’Shea) and has worked with many world renown artists including David Toop, Stephen Vitiello, Max Eastley, Rhodri Davies, Steve Roden and many others. Much of his work is available from Farpoint Recordings (www.farpointrecordings.com) includes books, CDs and a 7”vinyl record just released entitled “White Star Line” which uses field recording made on and under(hydrophones) the pier crossed by the last passengers before boarding the ill fated Titanic. The recording were made on the one hundred anniversary of the sinking.
