A.A.R.T. - RADIO (1994) / LIVE DAY ARCHIVE - DAY1 - Performance by Danny McCarthy -

1. Meditation on a Consecrated Flower Pot.

2. Crannchur - The Casting Of Sticks.

These works took place in the chapel of the Royal Hospital Kilmainhan Dublin Ireland also know as IMMA (Irish Museum of Modern Art). The first track is improvised live using various sized flower pots and Track 2 Crannchur (The Casting Of Sticks) consists of casting sticks on the marble floor of the chapel. Each letter in the Ogham Alphabet is named after a different type of tree.
The artist took these different pieces/types of wood and cast them on the floor. The work derives from the Drudic practice of casting the sticks to divine the sex of an unborn child, the guilt or innocence of someone, the future etc.
Interestingly the modern Gaelic word for Lottery is Crannchur.
